Discipleship

“And we…are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
-1 Corinthians 3:18

God’s ultimate desire for our lives here on earth is to become more like his son, Jesus Christ.  This process is called discipleship.  When a person becomes a follower of Christ, the Bible says that God’s spirit lives inside them and helps them to change their life from the inside out.  “For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him (Phillipians 2:13).”

The Bible says that this transformation takes place on the inside first, with our thoughts as attitudes.  The apostle Paul said, “There must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes (Ephesians 4:23).”  Also, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

So how does this miraculous change take place?  How do we know what we should be thinking and what our attitude should be?  God wants us to make.  The answer is found in God’s Word, the Bible.  Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God.”  It is through the Bible that we are shown how to live our lives.  As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, ”All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.”

Because of this, Lakeside is a church committed to teaching God’s word…even if it’s not the most popular opinion on the particular subject.  We do this because we value God’s ability to change continually change us through sound biblical teaching.  This is one of the many reasons why meet each week on Sunday mornings and in life groups.
