“We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."
2 Corinthians 5:20
As Christ followers, we have no greater task than to share the hope of salvation through Christ with our world. The spreading of this Good News is what we call evangelism. The Bible is clear that only Jesus can save people; “There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them (Acts 4:12)." However, Jesus left the task of sharing this message with us. He said in Acts 1:8, “You will be my witnesses…” The apostle Paul later summed this up by saying, “All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him (2 Corinthians 5:18).” This call to share Christ’s love is one of urgency. The reason for this is because there is little time. As John 9:4 says, “All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, because there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end.”
At Lakeside, there is nothing we celebrate more than a person coming to faith in Christ. For this reason, we try to equip our people the best that we can to share their faith with others. The Bible says to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (1 Peter 3:15).” Of all the things we teach at Lakeside, we teach the gospel the most. This is not just for the people who have not yet accepted Christ, but also for our fellow believers, so that their understanding of Jesus’ message of salvation is something that they have a firm grasp on, and feel comfortable sharing the message with their family and friends.
