Ministry

“For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
Ephesians 2:10

While here on earth, God has a plan for how He wants us to spend our time.  He wants us to live our lives for Him in service to others.  Jesus said, “For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others. (Matthew 20:28)”  For many people, this is a tough assignment.  Our time is precious to us, and we naturally tend to cling to it, hoping to soak up every moment of this life.  The problem is, Jesus said, “If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life (Mark 8:35).”  It seems that the secret to a fulfilled life here on earth is to give it up in service to others.  This is what we call ministry.

The Bible says, “We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do (Romans 12:5).”  The reason that each one of us has a different work to do is because just as different parts of a body look and function differently, so the body of Christ (the church), is made up of very different people, each with a unique set of features or traits.  Psalm 139:13,14 praises God for making us this way; “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb.  Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!  Your workmanship is marvelous--and how well I know it.”
At Lakeside, we believe God has given each of us a unique SHAPE.  We all have different Spiritual gifts, Hearts, Abilities, Personalities and Experiences.  Part of our connection class deals with identifying these qualities and using them for God.  This is how we learn to serve God together as part of one body.
